Regional Workshop on Sports Leadership

The Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) Regional Workshop on Sports Leadership will bring together emerging leaders from throughout the Pacific Islands, Australia, and New Zealand to build on the YPL pillar of Economic & Social Development – highlighting the importance of sports and sports management in the region as an avenue for diplomacy and community development across the Pacific region.

The YPL Sports Leadership Workshop includes:

  • Pre-Workshop Virtual Activities (19 MAY – 8 JUNE 2024)
  • YPL Sports Leadership Workshop in Los Angeles, California, USA (19-21 JUNE 2024, not inclusive of travel days)
  • Post-Workshop Follow-on Activities (JULY – SEPTEMBER 2024)

*Please note: those selected to participate will need to attend all phases of the program as outlined above. Travel to and from the YPL Workshop will occur in the days before 19 June and after 21 June 2024.

The YPL Program will cover all travel, accommodation, and meals for selected recipients. The YPL Program will only arrange participant travel from YPL-eligible countries to the Workshop. If you currently reside outside of the region, you will be responsible for arranging your own travel to a YPL country for Workshop travel to California, USA. Travel dates may vary based on the location of departure and may require extended layovers depending on flight itineraries. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be eligible for the program:

1. Applicants must be between 25-40 years old at the time of the Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) Sports Leadership Workshop.

2. Applicants must be a citizen and current resident of one of the YPL countries: Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Islands of French Polynesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, and the American-affiliated Pacific including American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Hawai’i. *If your country of citizenship and current country of residency is NOT listed, you are not eligible to apply.

3. Applicants must be fluent in English. The YPL Sports Leadership Workshop will be held entirely in English.

4. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of work experience.

5. Applicants must meet all COVID-19 requirements and agree to the COVID-19 Terms & Conditions outlined in this application, and be able to travel to California, USA, as well as participate in the YPL Sports Leadership Workshop in its entirety.
