Pacific young people looking for regional leadership experience have a few timely options to look at this month. Alliance Future Generations – Fiji shared three opportunities in its latest youth bulletin, ranging from EU-supported policy engagement to biodiversity advocacy and a year-long peacebuilding fellowship.
Here are the key details.
1. Pacific Youth Sounding Board
The Pacific Youth Sounding Board is being set up by the Delegation of the European Union to the Pacific to bring youth perspectives into EU programmes in the region.
The board will include 20 members aged 18-30 from Pacific island countries including Fiji, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Members are expected to serve for three years, take part in leadership training and issue-based workshops, and contribute around 25 days per year through virtual and in-person activities.
The focus areas include environmental protection and climate change, gender equality, human rights and democracy, disabilities, inequality reduction, conflict sensitivity, peace and resilience.
Applications close on Monday, 22 June 2026. Applicants need a good command of English, a valid passport, citizenship in one of the listed Pacific countries, and a letter of support from an affiliated organization.
2. Youth Delegation To The 11th Pacific Islands Conference On Nature Conservation
The Global Youth Biodiversity Network Pacific is inviting expressions of interest from Pacific youth aged 18-35 to join a youth delegation for the 11th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation, taking place from 7-11 September 2026 in Noumea, New Caledonia.
Public updates from SPREP describe the linked Pacific Biodiversity Youth Dialogue as a space for young leaders to strengthen their role in biodiversity conservation, environmental governance and sustainable development, while reconnecting with Indigenous knowledge and cultural values.
For young environmental advocates, this is a chance to connect with conservation practitioners, policymakers, regional partners and other youth leaders. The application form shared by Alliance Future Generations is available here.
3. 2026 William P. Fuller Fellowship In Peacebuilding
The Asia Foundation is accepting applications for the 2026 William P. Fuller Fellowship in Peacebuilding, a year-long leadership development programme for emerging peacebuilders from Asia and the Pacific.
The fellowship is open to early- and mid-career professionals working in peacebuilding, policy, advocacy, research, dialogue, mediation, community engagement or related fields. Three fellows will be selected for virtual learning, a two-week United States study tour from 10-21 November 2026, and a USD $2,500 professional development grant.
Applications are open from 10 June to 12 July 2026. The Asia Foundation says applicants must be 40 or younger during the programme year, fluent in written and spoken English, and committed to peacebuilding in the Asia-Pacific region through research or practice.
Why It Matters
These opportunities are not just CV-builders. They are entry points into regional decision-making spaces where Pacific youth voices are still too often invited late, if at all.
For applicants, the practical move is simple: check eligibility first, prepare supporting documents early, and ask a mentor or organization to review your application before submission. For youth networks, share these links quickly, especially with young people outside the usual urban and organizational circles.
